Dear Melanie,
I visited "our" friend TRW yesterday 8/29/09 at Wilkes Pre-Release Center in Washington, GA. I was so excited to hear about your recent visit to the facility. TRW was very eager to tell me all about it. What a sweet impact you have made on his life. I do so regret he was not able to attend the outdoor concert you put on in downtown Washington. I look forward to meeting you and I do know it will happen. He is such a precious friend and good person. Good things are happening to him and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a friend to him. He has made such spiritual growth while he has been incarcerated and if anything good has come from his time within prison walls it is this and finding great friends like you and Beckie. I do look forward to meeting you and I will be with TRW when I do...May our God continue to BLESS you in all that you do.........Lei

Hi, Melanie. You don't know me (yet) but I attend Broadview Evangelical Free Church. I am so sorry I missed meeting you this morning. I have three daughters that attend Kings Christian School and one of them just happens to be going into grade 4 as is your Madison! I am so very thrilled. We have been praying for this class to get a new girl or two and here you are! We are fairly new to Salmon as we moved here a year and a half ago. If you would like I would love to have you in for coffee so that the girls could meet each other before school. Sounds like you might be pretty busy, so if that doesn't work out, just know that we will be praying for you and your family and for your Madison as she transitions into Grade 4! I know that can be very overwhelming, but just let her know there are a great group of girls there. Only 5 but they are sweet. Blessings to you and your family.

Dear Melanie:
I was a desperate wife, who has been touched by your music ministry. I have both of your CD’s and have shared them with a few close friends and family members. I found your music during a time when things were going well in my life and I loved your music for its uplifting lyrics and the varied styles found on “a new thing.” I did not gravitate toward it for any particular prayer work in my life. But, I knew it was positive and that I loved it.
Little did I know more than a year ago, that I would need your music to see me through one of the worst personal struggles of my life. I had already battled a case of depression, and felt that it was under control with the help of an awesome Christian doctor, family and friends, but over the last year my marital life has hit as close to rock bottom as I ever want to reach. For more than fifteen months I struggled in my relationship with my husband.
Along with some sound teachings in a celebrated women’s devotional, and prayer book, and time lunching on my own, I became convinced that my prayers were being answered with NO. I was praying and believing for the best, but each step forward came with 3 or more terrible, frightening steps backward. I believed for a few agonizing months this year that there was no healthy way to stay with my husband. Instead, I began to face the grim reality that a physical separation was in deed inevitable.
Believing as I do that we were matched and brought together by God, it was very, hard for me to recognize that I might have to separate from my husband, and allow him to work on himself, and face some very negative strongholds which had built up in his life. I was sad, but not defeated. I believed that if I had to move, it would not be the end. I was becoming convinced that the only way to cause life changing work to occur in my husband would be for me to bring rock bottom to us. And, of course, like most people, I wanted God to fix him and me. But, the emphasis was on him. I was tired of trying to fix him by fixing me.
As I was facing that hurt, I began to put up a wall around my heart, and began withholding my forgiveness and my affections for my husband. In that time a dear friend shared some wonderful scripture from her bible study and I knew and faced the fact that I was contributing to this cycle. But, I was still convinced that I should leave my home to let him work on his own, despite all scriptural examples to the contrary.
During one of my more desperate moments trying to make a worldly fix of my problems, I went in search of temporary housing. When I was driving back to work your CD hit “A Man of His Word.” At that moment, I was overcome. I literally had to pull off the road and have a good cry.
There and then I confessed my emotional infidelity to our Father. By the time I recomposed my self and got back on the road the CD had progressed to “Sacrifice of Righteousness.” It confirmed what I had known, that I am not called to give in and up on this marriage that God gave me. Instead, I determined that I would press on for the prize which is Christ Jesus.
I prayed to be the wife that He describes in Proverbs, Ephisians and Corinthians to name a few. I prayed to accept Jesus as our deliverer who would surely see to it that my husband would become “A man of His Word.”, and the man I have loved and trusted for years. Your work reminded me that I could trust Jesus’ truth, and that walking this narrow and sometimes unpleasant path, I must be assured that all of my needs for love, contentment, safety and security would be met.
I didn’t know how or when the hurting in my marriage would stop. I just knew that focusing on the Word kept my mind from running to negative thoughts about how to end my suffering. So instead of driving to work with the radio running or in silent to pray (at this time my silent prayers would become tangential gripe sessions to Jesus.), I just let your CDs play over and over in the car. It was a constant help in my hour of need.
About three weeks later, I found the time, energy and courage to take my husband to lunch and to boldly and plainly pour out my heart to him. That did not instantly fix all of our problems, but it fixed my heart on Christ and helped me to be more committed and steadfast in prayer for my marriage. I did not pray for “picket fences, green grass and happily-ever-after.” Instead, I have prayed that my husband would be protected from the enemy who was devouring him before my eyes. That he would find the narrow path, and begin to walk on it again, and that he would be removed from all un-holy influences. I prayed for our rescue.
Gradually, God has healed my hurts and my Husband has made some miraculous progress toward healing himself, and in return, our marriage as been removed from the edge or ruin. I couldn’t be more blessed to see this miracle. Believe me, the world in me tells me it will not hold, this will not work. And when these thoughts creep up on me, I pray, I invoke Jesus and I often find myself humming a tune… “a man of his word…” While that song continues to make me tender and teary-eyed, it is somehow a salve. It is the promise that Christ has given us his life so that we can fight on, using his work and Word as an example and a help, in troubling times. He convinces me daily that He is on the throne and here for each of us, no matter what we are going through.
I remain convinced that God will work every evil thing to the good of this marriage. I believe this for all who will trust in and believe in Him. It is hard to rest in and trust in the Truth, because it requires surrender. Believe me, I know how hard this is to do moment by moment, and step by step.
Your music has helped me to see how God gave me “a new thing”, during a fun phase of life as means to build me up and shore up my reserves for this dark time. He brought me through all of this, so that He could re-confirm what a “Good Jesus” he is to me, when I let him take the lead.
I am blessed by the work the Father sent through you. Thank you for writing, singing and ministering to us. The world is a better place because you followed Jesus to your piano.
Warm Blessings to you, (name withheld)

Melanie, I'm not sure if you remember me or not but when you were just a little girl and I was first married and living in Ottawa you and your brother were at your nan and Emile's on seiveral occasions when we were there for dinner. I had 2 children Christopher and Laura. Laura passed away 5 yrs ago-she was severely handicapped. Lyle did her funeral.and she was buried in Smiths Falls. I had a stroke 3 yrs ago at church one Sunday morning and Lois sent me your CDafter we had been to Ottawa for Emile's funeral.
I had Paul buy me a player -your music was such a blessing to me - it is what got me through the days and nights - the words were my prayers because I ciuldn't pray.Ten years ago I went through a divorce and am married to a wonderful man.
PLease let me know if you come to
burlington again. If I had known the last time I would have come to your concert it is only about 10 minutes away.
I can hardly believe your daughter is 8 - the last pictures I saw at your nan's

Hi Melanie, Peter and I watched you on Crossroads this morning. It was great seeing you again - if not in person! Peter reminded me that you and Jim shared a meal with us in our home in Princeton. I love seeing how God has grown you over the past few years. Perhaps we can be in touch about a speaking engagement at a Young Life of Canada Women's retreat here in Princeton at my place of employment - RockRidge Canyon. The retreats are held the last weekend of September each year. Lets talk... Linda

You have a true "modern day" missionary story that you are telling. I used to read missionary bios when I was a teen -- of those who were in China in particular back in the days when that was so truly untouched and even dangerous. Now, reading your e-mails are like reading those missionary bios -- thrilling, humbling, and such a testimony of His surpising paths. I am praying for your strength today -- physically and emotionally.

Dearest Melanie,
Your soul moving voice is now sounding in the Great Lakes region of Africa. Your CD, which was played all through our last packing under the Russian bombing, has accompanied us to yet another zone of conflict zone. I know but only some of the troubles you, Jim and Maddi have endured throughout the making of your music, but I want to me amongst the many who can tell you that what you have done has been a true blessing to us and others. May the Lord keep you all close and safe in His arms.
With much love
